The Contag G Pages user, Haiko Pohl, Germany, wrote to me in a private mail. I have his permission to publish the content of his mail:

“Berlin is a big city. Period. Are you interested in street/city life– this is a heterogenous place. Due to its history with the wall running through the city and enclosing the western part for almost 30 years (from 1961 to 1989, if their is a cultural gap), there are many different sights. And all is within short distance. The wall disappeared–apart from a left behind cultural/historical document– but differences in life and culture can still be found.

If you are interested in nature, two rivers run through the city. The city centre is Venice-like with many bridges and channels. The surroundings are peacefull, green (parks even with deer!), full of opportunities for watching birds or wildlife. Not to forget two zoos and a huge botanical garden.

My favorite shooting places in Berlin city centre were found during walking from Alexanderplatz westwards to Brandenburger Tor, and continueing to Tiergarten (a huge park) and towards Kreuzberg (big cultural mix). Quiet places can be found everywhere even in the city centre. Some are more exhibiting concrete/architecture, some more green/water, some more steel. People are also everywhere :) , street life is famous for Kreuzberg (west) and Prenzlauer Berg (east).

Got interested? Please let me know if you have more questions.

    Best regards,
    Haiko”

  2. Hi,

As a PhD student, I’m used to attending scientific congresses, in which attendants are encouraged to hang posters describing their own research.

I think it could be nice if you could arrange with the conference room/hotel, a similar thing so that we can hang a couple photographs for everyone to enjoy. This should encourage discussion among the attendants, just like in scientific congresses.

Print size and mounting details should be the same for all, and we can also submit the text of the labels, so that they can be formatted and printed by the organisers.

    Hope you like the idea.

    Regards.

    Dear Diego

Thank you for the comment, and welcome to The Summit Group :-) .

Yes, I like your idea, the challenge is however: The Berlin Summit is not a conference or a congress. It is more of a four day shooting and social session in Berlin, with a very loosely defined “program”. So, there will be no conference hotel, no conference room, and no organisers that just “do things”.

This is a concept that have emerged from The Summit Polls at The Contax G Pages, that are linked to in the blogroll of this blog.

If you look at the draft program you will find that this is very open, however, suggesting two get together session a day: a bar session and a dinner session. Both are optinal.

Even that, I am confident, that there will a lot opportunities to discuss images, photography and many others things during the four days :-) .

The summit platform is The ContaxG Pages, and many of the participants have known each others for years; reviewing, rating and discussing G images. So, why don’t you start posting there and get acquinted with other G users. Some of whome, will attend the G Summit in Berlin.

Best of luck with it :-) .

    Best wishes

    Hi All,

Diego has a good suggestion. Since we don’t have a formal meeting, why not request everyone to bring 3-4 prints, maybe 8×10 or A4 size (from G shots of course!) and we could have a print exchange?

    cheers
    Peter

Not a bad idea at all.

I’ll suggest, that those who want to bring prints for a print exchange, should certainly do it. There used to be a tradition for print exchanges on The Contax G Pages.

Prints, as handouts, could most easily be distributed and discussed at one on the more informal get togethers, that I am sure that there will be plenty of.

And we have Harry W. Mueller there. He is an expert printer, and maybe he would want to say some words related to some of the prínts. That, however, will be intirely up to him to decide.

Let me see how I can promote this idea more visibly on the blog. Thanks to both you and Diego.

    Best

  6. Marvellous Idea. I would love to attend, but I will hold off until we know whether we can. My fianceé is from Hamburg, and I have always wanted to visit Berlin, so I am very keen :)

It does depend on whether it clashes with Glastonbury, whether I will still be in school, or any number of things. But great idea :)

    Best Regards
