The most tricky part is NOT to find suitable hotels in Berlin, but simply to target the ideal area of Berlin from, and within which, we could operate. “A Summit Base Camp” in suitable walking distance …
So, to make a qualified shortcut to this, I simply asked Juergen Stumpe, the Berlin photographer. Who would know better than a fellow arist
. (Remember my question should be read before Juergen’s answer).
Juergen Stumpe says:
Generally the destrict between “Friedrichstrasse”, “Oranienburger Strasse” (“Hackescher Markt”) and “Unter den Linden” would be perfekt for you.
( The jewish quarter belongs to this area too)

Juergen

Thanks very much for you kind answer. None of us are very familiar with Berlin so I will ask you some questions. Give me some time. I have many.
Just one question for now: What part of the city will be the best place to stay if you want some “artistic flavour” to your stay, and still be in walking distance from the Mitte and the attractions there. I am looking for one or more local Berlin hotels in the same area of town. Any ideas?
I have heard that the old Jewish quarters may be good?
Best wishes
Knut
many thanks to Juergen Stumpe.
I will try to target suitable hotels in that area, and revert.
If any of you would like to join me in this, you are most welcome. Just add your ideas as comments to this post. Here is a link that brings you to about 60 hotels in the areas. http://www.berlin.citysam.de/hotels-berlin/hotels-unter-den-linden.htm. Dig in and have a say, pls. The price range is very good, from what I can see at a glance.
If you have access to Google Earth just write the address of the hotel, comma Berlin. Hit search, and you are there in no time.
Absolutely incredible
.
Juergen Stumpe kindly also refers to a booking site:
“Do you know HRS ( www.hrs.de ) … a very detailed online booking system… ?”.
Now I do
.
Best wishes
