Greetings from Juergen Stumpe, Berlin

Posted by Knut on June 28, 2007

I found this fascinating, and vibrant site on the internet: www.berlin-photos.de. The master, and maker is Berlin photographer Juergen Stumpe. I asked permission to link to his site, and got it.

See also his other photo sites, below:

Dear Knut,

this is - of course - no problem.

Keep me up to date.

Update June 2007

Posted by Knut on June 26, 2007

Just a quick word.

The overall agenda for the G Summit is now in place. Meaning,

  • dates are set
  • draft program is in place
  • steering committee is, almost, in place
  • book scenario is in place
  • people are working on short speeches for the summit (Harry and Maurizio)
  • the blog is in place, and seems to be working ok

The interest has been very positive. Some 10 people have openly expressed intentions of going (I know there are more), and 3 people already have their personal presentation on the blog. Hopefully there will be many more over the coming months. So, if you have intentions of attending, please state it. If you already have decided going, then have a presentation of yourself in. This is interesting reading for all who pops by the blog, and may drive even more participants.

I have started working to get contacts directly in Berlin, who can make the summit even more worth while. When I have news about this, it will be posted to the blog. I will continue to update the blogroll. If you find good links, then please let me know.

I just wanted this quick word to say thanks for the support so far. Please stay tuned, and please pass the blog’s URL on to G users you might know, who would take an interest in the summit.

Best regards

Knut

Hello my name is Harry W. Mueller, born in Sachendorf, East Germany and came to the United States with my parents in 1956. Lived and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Went to college at M.I.T for Associate Degree in Printing & Publishing, then to Rochester Institute of Technology for Graphic Arts & Photography. Spend most of my last 30 plus years in book production and design, from letterpress to digital. Managed the Stinehour Press, in Vermont and now an Assistant Professor at Lyndon State College, in Lyndonville, Vermont.
I teach graphic design, typography, color, digital photography, photoshop and other related graphic design courses. I own a G2 with 2 lenses. Had a Leica camera but lost it. Went for the G2 due to costs and quality. I favor the G2 for its automation and rangefinder.
It is a great image maker. Looking forward in meeting all of this vibrant group and enjoying a beer together. My love and passion is photography and books. Worked on major books for many photographers within my 30 plus year careers. Enjoying my time with my 7 year old and two older children grown and off doing their own thing.

Best Regards and hoping for a successful summit.
Harry

Harry W. Mueller: “Photography and the Art of The book”

Posted by Knut on June 22, 2007

Harry W. Mueller is preparing a short lecture for the Berlin Summit. I have his permission to quote from a private mail:

Hi Knut,
I am preparing a fun and short lecture on “Photography and the Art of the Book”
It will highlight what has been done in a traditional way and what the future will hold for us.
It will contain images of actual books produced by Stinehour and myself, stories to tell, and some technical tips for anyone interested in producing a book.

This certainly will be interesting. I have always wanted to have a photo book on my own :-) . After Berlin, I will know how to do one - well almost, I hope.

Best wishes

Draft Program

Posted by Knut on June 22, 2007

You may recall that we had a poll specifically on the program. I asked for indications as to the duration and frame of program. Out of 13 votes cast, 11 voted for a summit lasting 4 days, 1 for 7 days,  and 1 placed a vote for “other”.

In addition: 6 voters preferred a less intensive program; 4 stated “let’s just go there and play it by the ear”.

So, there seems to be grounds for setting up a summit lasting “4 days, with a less intensive program”. Bearing in mind that 4 voters wanted to “play it by the ear”.

Berlin - Vibrant City“.

Day One - June 21, 2008.

  • Arriving to Berlin
  • Individual shooting, or whatever
  • 07.00 PM: Get Together Dinner
    • During dinner; presentations and speech/lecture
  • After Dinner: Whatever

Day Two - June 22, 2008.

  • Shooting Sessions: Old and New, Cityscapes; Peoplescapes
  • 01.00 PM: Bar Meeting (optional)
  • Shooting Sessions: Old and New, Cityscapes; Peoplescapes
  • 07.00 PM: Dinner. Possibly speech or/and  short lecture
  • After Dinner: Whatever

Day Three - June 23, 2008

  • Shooting Sessions: Old and New, Cityscapes; Peoplescapes
  • 01.00 PM: Bar Meeting (optional)
  • Shooting Sessions: Old and New, Cityscapes; Peoplescapes
  • 07.00 PM: Dinner. Possibly speech or/and  short lecture
  • After Dinner: Whatever

Day Four - June 24, 2008

  • Shooting Sessions: Old and New, Cityscapes; Peoplescapes
  • 01.00 PM: Bar Meeting (optional)
  • Shooting Sessions: Old and New, Cityscapes; Peoplescapes
  • 06.00 PM: Dinner. Possibly surprice  speech or/and  short lecture
  • After Dinner: Whatever

By “Bar Meeting” is meant a gathering in any place that can house a small crowd. Could even be outdoor.

This preliminary agenda will, most surely, be subject to change. I will try to arrange some events that’s interesting enough to make people want to attend.

Knut Skjærven Says:
June 21st, 2007 at 10:00 pm e

Hi, I am Knut.

Born in Bergen, Norway, but moved to Copenhagen, Denmark to complete my education. And got stuck.

I have had an interest in photography as long as I can remember, and bought my first G in 1998. Before that, I had Nikon gear. I have been a user on The Contax G Pages from the very start.

I have worked with different aspects of communication all of my professional life. Among other things, I have done content analysis of images for marketing and historical purposes. I have written two books related to the area (planning a third one) , and many, many articles for journals and newspapers. Unfortunately all of them in Danish, or in Norwegian. You’ll find some of them in the blogroll under “G User Ressources”. Pretty old stuff, but still very valid -) .
When the chance is given, I still do free-lance stuff for newspapers. Both as a writer and as photographer. I really enjoy that.

Yes, (I knew you would ask) I have initiated many conferences and summits in the past, but never one lasting 4 days (more like 4 hours) :-). However, with much larger groups of participants (and lots of people to do all the “hard” work) -) .

I live in Copenhagen, Denmark. I have 4 kids. All, of them (well almost) grown up. I live with Kirsten.

I work for a larger (used to be Danish) telecommunication company doing business development, strategies and sales.

Best wishes
Knut

Harry W. Mueller joins Steering Committee

Posted by Knut on June 11, 2007

I am very pleased to welcome Harry W. Mueller as a working member of the Steering Committee. Harry will particularly work as a sparring partner on general issues, and on sponsorships. Harry presents himself:

“I teach Graphic Design at Lyndon State College in Vermont, the green state. I enjoy the photography aspect. Photographing Berlin would be a great opportunity for any of us, it has history, and many interesting places. I was born in Germany, on the Eastern side, near Leipzig. I came to the US in 1956 and welcome the opportunity to come back again. I would be available to give some lectures on photography if any of you are interested. I have spent the last 30 years printing photographic books for many photographers and artist. I was the CEO of the Stinehour Press in Vermont. Hope this all works out and let me know what I can do to make this happen”.

Harry Mueller ist,  selbverständlich, auch ein user von The Contax G Pages.

Welcome Harry :-) .

 Best wishes
