BRING BLOG PRINTS FOR YOUR OWN USE

I suggests that you bring prints of the most important pages/posts on this blog.

I know there is internet access at the hotel, but I don’t know anything of print facilities. Just for you own use :-).

Suggestion: I will bring prints (for my own use) of the following pages/posts:

1) Page: New: These have now booked. (So you know who you are going to meet in Berlin).

2) Page: Draft Program. (Since this page gives you addresses and a rough schedule).

3) Page: Nice to know. (Since this page gives useful information).

4) Other pages/posts that you might find useful.

All these pages will be finally updated shortly before (my departure) to Berlin, which will be June 20 (I will leave very early June 21 from Copenhagen).

I know that many plan to bring their Digital Gear as well, so you may want to consider bringing a PC.

April 14: Update.

Let me do an update on the most important issues.

Today is April 14, 2008 and there are 2 months and 7 days till some of us meet in Berlin. You should start preparing your camera now, if you have not already done that. Go for fresh batteries, and clean the lenses for dust:-).

Hotel Booking

Motel One at K-damm had 10 rooms reserved for us at a special price. In this very moment 9 of these rooms has been booked by participants. In other words, and as far as I know, there is 1 room left to go if you want to stay at this particular hotel. You need to take direct contact to the hotel by email or by phone. Online booking will not do since the hotel is already full.

If you can’t get a room there YOU need to book at another hotel in the area. Or where you want to stay.

Films and Film Processing 

There is a nearby shop where you can buy films et cetera, and have your films processed. The shop is just around the corner from Motel One (10 minute walk). It is special up-scale dealer, and they have professional films in stock, but please remember that you will most likely arrive in Berlin June 21, and that is a Saturday. The shop closes at 06.00 p.m.

NB: You will not get professional films like Provia in normal film outlets. You will need to go to special shops like this one. The name of the shop is Wüstefeld. If you have special requirements, or simple want to make sure that they have the films that you need, you should call or email them in advance (Not me. The shop).

Should I bring Prints?

That is entirely up to you. If you want to show your prints, maybe have someone comment upon them, you should certainly bring prints. I am sure many will. If you bring enough prints, you may be in for a print exchange. A print exchange will not be formally arranged. 

The Book

Will there be a book? If that is what we agree on there will be a book, but there will not be a book during the 4 days that we are in Berlin. 

If we agree on a book there are plenty of ways to make one. Using a book template is one of them. For more information please go here for the present status. 

We need to make the book after our session in Berlin.

Dinners

Question: You have planned 4 dinners. Are we really going to have 4 dinners all of us together?

Answer: The 4 dinners are an option, and therefore not necessarily what it going to happen. I suggest we go for 2 dinners where we everybody should join, and then play the two other days by the ear. There will a final update on this on this page.

Dress Code

I have had a question about dress code. Will there be one for, for instance, the dinners. The answer is: If you want to bring your black tie, please do. However, everything, in The G Summit is intended CASUAL. So my advice is be casual :-). And wear casual.

When in Berlin

Who will arrange things for me when I come to Berlin? No one will. As most of us stay at the same hotel there will be plenty of opportunity to co-ordinate things during the stay.

Ok, I know I have been pretty much the “where did he go?” guy lately but I have still had this in the back of my mind. I am researching whether I can go or not. The airfare from the US is NOT cheap (almost $1500 USD!) and that’s with at least one stop (15 hours+ to get there). Plus hotel for the week, and food, and (some) fun, it will be $2500 USD in the end at least. I really want to go but need to think it through a little more. I’d love nothing more to see you guys and could sure use a small vacation of seeing Berlin and walking around with my G2….I’ll keep you posted on my thoughts over the next week as I plan to decide soon….

All in Place at Motel One

Well, due incredible foresight during negotiations with Motel One last year, it seems that the hotel is holding rooms for the G Summit Group

So even if the hotel is fully booked, there are still rooms for participants from the G Summit Group. All participants so far are, in other words, staying at Motel One.

What a grand result

Jan Brouckaert Joins G Summit

Hi all

More good news. I just had an email confirmation from Jan. He is coming to Berlin as well. And that is great news.

Jan, as far as I remember, revitalised his interest in photography thought the Contax G Pages many years ago, and have had several exhibitions in Belgium, which is his home country.

Motel One Fully Booked

Based on the information from Wilfred van der Vegte, I am sorry that I have to say that Motel One, at K-damm is now fully booked based on the information on the Internet. Wilfred is a participant and he had to find another hotel.

You could still try to telephone the hotel as the Internet information sometimes are not that accurate, but the chances are that you need to find another hotel in the area. For checking out other hotel in the area I suggest that you go here.

Wilfred joins G Summit

Did you see that guys? Wilfred van der Vegte has just annonced that he will join the G Summit in Berlin. He just made my day

Wilfred is one of the heavy G shooters and an oldtimer on The Contax G Pages. Go see his portfolio. Wilfred and I both joined the preliminary G Summit back in 2003 when we meet in Delft, The Netherlands :-).

Visuals Wins: Blog Statistics

I thought you might want to see the top 20+ list from the blog statistics. It seems that in the last couple of days a picture post has taken the lead over the many text posts. It’s great, and the Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz is a good place to be when the sun is shining and you have brought your G. Hopefully it will look this good in June. I am sure that it will.
